Bio for Dana Easter – 2011 Featured Artist
Dana’s obsession with fabric began at an early age. As she watched her father practice his trade as a tailor, Dana instinctively knew the world of fiber was where she belonged.
Born in Baltimore, Maryland, Dana never even considered doing anything else but art. Her instinctive and effortless ability to produce exciting, innovative clothing, accessories and sculpture can only be called a God-given gift. Using a combination of fabric, paint, dye and a multiple collection of various and sundry objects, Dana produces work that can only be described as daring, thought-provoking and cutting-edge.

Her work has been displayed in museums and galleries throughout the country and is coveted by many well-known collectors. Hergarments are instantly recognizable and have been proudly worn by many celebrities including Cicely Tyson, Angela Bassett and Nancy Wilson. The comment “that must be a Dana” is a common reaction to her wearable art. Her work has also appeared in Essence and Upscale magazines.
Dana received a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
Artist’s Statement
“I came into this world with the knowledge that I, Dana Easter, am an artist…nothing more, nothing less. I am aware that my talent is a gift from God; and I am so blessed and thankful to have known and embraced it at an early age.
I am most at peace when I am doing what I know is God’s will for me….creating and sharing my art. It is my source and my supply.
